Welcome to Cotswold Bird Surveys

Cotswold Bird Surveys was set up in 2018 by local bird expert and ecologist Anna Field to provide landscape-scale bird surveys and advice to farmers and land managers in the Cotswolds and surrounding areas to:

• survey bird populations on farms
• provide baseline data prior to changes in land management
• monitor bird population changes over time
• provide advice and practical assistance with bird conservation (e.g. habitat management and nest boxes), environmental land management schemes and funding opportunities

• Breeding bird surveys
• Winter bird surveys
• Nocturnal thermal imager surveys
• Habitat assessments for environmental land management schemes e.g. breeding/wintering wader options
• Nest finding and ringing studies
• Long-term monitoring projects

Fees and methodology are set to facilitate landscape-scale bird surveys - several recent surveys have covered sites of over 1000ha

Anna Field is an experienced ornithologist, having carried out a wide range of surveys for the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) and other organisations over the last 20 years. She holds an undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University and a masters degree in Conservation Ecology from Oxford Brookes University and through these has an excellent understanding of bird survey techniques and data analysis. She holds a BTO ringing 'A' permit and Schedule 1 licence and is an experienced nest finder and recorder for a number of species. She has a particular interest in raptor ecology, monitors a large number of Barn Owl sites in the North Cotswolds and is an active member and trustee of the Gloucestershire Raptor Monitoring Group. She is an associate member of CIEEM
